CLUB INFO

The Juan de Fuca Masters Football Club is a nonprofit entity, operating in Victoria BC's Westshore community, whose membership consists of three men's soccer teams: over 40s, over 48s and over 55s, competing in league play through the South Vancouver Island Classic Soccer Association (SVICSA).  Since 1975, JDF Masters FC has offered its club members the year-round opportunity for exercise, social engagement and community involvement.

Each spring we give a $500 scholarship to a graduating Royal Bay HS student who also plays on the soccer team, alternating between the boys and girls teams.  They host us with a friendly match against our club team.  While we're getting older, these folks are always between 15-18 years old, so we keep losing by bigger and bigger margins.  We still have a blast!

MEMBER INFO

CLUB DUES

Dues for the year are $350/player. The dues cover the costs of field rental, referees, and equipment for approximately 30 weekly games during regular SVICSA league play which runs from September through March.  JDF Masters FC also uses player fees to cover several other extra items each year; including:

  • The club covers the cost of registration fees for the annual Bill Drew Tournament hosted each April by SVICSA which brings teams from up-island, the mainland, Washington, and Oregon.

  • Players receive new shorts and socks each year, and when the club purchases jackets, bags, or other equipment, members receive a substantial discount on these items.

  • Our club gives back to the community by purchasing 10-15 bicycles at Christmas for children in our community who wouldn't otherwise be able to have one.  We also offer an annual scholarship to a graduating Royal Bay high school student who played soccer and plans to continue post-secondary studies.

A social membership is also offered for retired players at $50/year. Social members stay connected to the club because they continue to offer critical leadership to the club through our various tournament involvements, community outreach, and often through service on our executive.

2021.  Thanks to Canadian Tire for helping us donate 8-10 bikes each Christmas to families in our community who have children that don't have bikes!

Logan Lowe, recipient of the 2022 JDF Masters FC scholarship.  Each year we award a $500 scholarship to a soccer athlete/scholar who plans to proceed with post-secondary studies.

VOLUNTEERISM AND CAMARADERIE

While soccer is the main reason we get together, our club seeks members who are all-around good guys that will engage in our club camaraderie, be respectful of all people on and off the field, and take part in helping sustain our volunteer-based club to be the best club possible.

We ask members to volunteer when our club is asked to run the beer tent at the annual Bill Drew tournament in April.  Many volunteers are needed to set up and take down tents, tables, chairs, as well as serve beer to guests.  Events like these are an additional source of income for our club to keep our dues at a reasonable cost and to give us the ability to maintain our giving back to our community.

WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU JOIN US

Our regular season of league play begins in mid-September and finishes in early April with a break over the holiday weeks in December. JDF Masters FC rotates its three teams at two home field locations, the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, Grass Field #2, and the Royal Bay Secondary School, Turf Field. Home games are typically scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, and away games vary between Wednesday and Friday evenings, or Saturday and Sundays. We play an average of once per week, and after home games, we gather at The Country Rose Pub for drinks, food, and bragging.

Each team roster is defined by the Team Manager, usually in late August for the upcoming season. Many variables exist in the process of bringing on new players. If you are interested in joining a team, you should contact the Team Manager for your age category directly through our Contact link. Usually a Team Manager will suggest that you come out to our summer scrimmages as a way to get to know you as a person and a player, and to give you an opportunity to get to know us as well. We look for players who will be a good fit with our club values. Please note that our existing members receive priority for each new season.
